As temperatures drop and the season slows down, it’s essential to prepare your motorhome for winter. Correct winterization protects your water system, prevents frost damage and ensures your STX is ready for effortless use once spring returns. Below, we guide you through the recommended steps to safely drain and secure your water system.
Water left inside pipes, taps or tanks can freeze and expand, causing cracks, leaks or expensive repairs. A methodical winterization process ensures that your STX motorhome remains in perfect condition, whether stored for a few weeks or for the full winter season.
To winterize the water system, prepare the following equipment:
Let the vehicle run for around 10 minutes. This builds enough air pressure to open all valves during draining.
Turn off the water pump and switch off the heating system (boiler).
Open every tap inside the motorhome:
— Kitchen
— Bathroom
— Shower
— Garage
Both hot and cold lines should remain open.
Locate the collector and find the rubber tube equipped with an air valve.
Attach the air blower to the valve and blow until water stops coming out of every tap—only air should exit.
This ensures all lines are completely empty.
This prevents pressure build-up and ensures full drying during storage.
